How customers add and remove products from their wishlist
Overview
Once your wishlist button is live on product and collection pages, customers can start saving products right away. This page explains exactly how the wishlist works from the shopper's point of view, including where customers can save items, what they can do on the wishlist page, how items are removed, and what happens after purchase.
Customers usually access their wishlist from the heart icon in your storefront header or by visiting /apps/wishlist/.
How customers add products to their wishlist
Customers can save products anywhere they see the wishlist button or heart icon. When an item is added, the button usually changes to an active or filled state so the customer knows it was saved successfully.
From a product page
On the product page, customers can click the heart icon or Add to Wishlist button. This is commonly placed near the product title or close to the Add to Cart button.
The customer opens a product page.
They click the wishlist button.
The button changes appearance to confirm the product was saved.
From a collection page
On collection pages, the wishlist heart appears on each product card. This lets customers save products while browsing without opening each product first.
The customer browses a collection or category page.
They click the heart icon on a product card.
The product is added to their wishlist immediately.
From the wishlist page
If product recommendations are enabled, customers may also be able to save recommended items directly from the wishlist page.
Wishlist buttons work best when they are clearly visible on both product pages and collection pages. This gives customers more chances to save items while they shop.
What customers see on the wishlist page
After saving one or more products, customers can open their wishlist page to review everything in one place. The wishlist page helps them return to saved items later and quickly move products into their cart.
On the wishlist page, customers can usually see:
Product image
Product title
Price
Selected variant, such as size or color
Stock-aware purchase options, depending on your store settings
Actions available on the wishlist page
View saved items in a single list
Add one item to cart directly from the wishlist
Add all items to cart at once using Add All to Cart
Remove items they no longer want to keep
Select quantity before adding to cart, if quantity selection is enabled
Choose a variant such as size or color, if variant selection is enabled
Share the wishlist using a link or supported social sharing options
The exact options customers see on the wishlist page depend on the features you have enabled in the app settings.
How customers remove products from their wishlist
Customers can remove saved products in more than one place.
Remove from the product page or collection page
If a product is already saved, the wishlist button appears active or filled. Clicking it again removes the product from the wishlist.
Remove from the wishlist page
Customers can also remove items directly from their wishlist using the remove icon, trash icon, or similar delete action shown on each saved item.
The customer opens their wishlist from the storefront heart icon or visits /apps/wishlist/.
They locate the product they no longer want to keep.
They click the remove or trash icon, or click the active wishlist button again if they are on the product or collection page.
What happens when a customer buys a wishlist item
What happens after purchase depends on your wishlist behavior settings.
Remove after cart or order: Items can be removed automatically when the customer adds them to cart or completes an order.
Keep in wishlist: Items can stay saved so the customer can return to them later or buy them again in the future.
This behavior is controlled in General Settings → Wishlist Behaviour.
Customer experience at a glance
The customer clicks the heart icon on a product page, collection page, or recommended item.
They open the wishlist page to see everything they have saved.
They can select variants, adjust quantity if enabled, and add one or more items to cart.
They can remove items at any time from the wishlist page or by toggling the wishlist button off.
How to access this in the app
If you want to review or control how this customer experience works, check these areas in the app:
Wishlist button settings to control where the button appears
Wishlist page settings to manage page features like sharing, variant selection, and quantity options
General Settings → Wishlist Behaviour to decide whether purchased items stay in the wishlist or are removed automatically
If customers cannot add products to their wishlist, first confirm that the wishlist button is enabled and visible on your product and collection pages.
Best practices
Show the wishlist button on both product pages and collection pages so customers can save items wherever they browse.
Enable wishlist sharing if your customers commonly save items for gifts, later purchases, or collaborative shopping.
Use variant and quantity selection on the wishlist page if you want customers to move saved items to cart with fewer clicks.
Review your wishlist behavior settings carefully so the post-purchase experience matches how you want repeat purchases to work.
