Back in Stock Notify Me button is not showing — how to fix it
Overview
If the Notify Me button is not appearing on out-of-stock products, the cause is usually one of a few setup or inventory issues. Use the checklist below in order. In most cases, the button starts showing again after the first few checks.
The Notify Me button only appears when Shopify confirms that the product or selected variant is out of stock. If Shopify still considers the item available, the button will stay hidden.
Before you start
To troubleshoot quickly, test with one specific product that should show the button. If the product has variants, make sure you know exactly which variant you are testing.
Open the product page in your storefront.
If the product has variants, select the exact variant you want to test.
Keep the product open in one browser tab while checking settings in Shopify and the app.
Step-by-step troubleshooting
If the app embed is off, the Notify Me button will not appear.
In Shopify, go to Online Store → Themes.
Click Customize on your live theme.
Open App embeds.
Find WC Wishlist & Back in Stock.
Turn it ON.
Click Save.
If your wishlist button is also missing, this is the first thing to check.
The Notify Me button only shows for items that Shopify marks as out of stock.
Go to Shopify Admin → Products.
Open the product you are testing.
Check the Inventory section.
Make sure the inventory quantity is 0 for the product or the specific variant you selected.
Make sure Track quantity is enabled.
If Track quantity is turned off, Shopify may not treat the item as out of stock, so the Notify Me button will not appear.
The feature must be enabled in the app settings for the page where you expect the button to appear.
Go to Apps → WC Wishlist & Back in Stock.
Open Back In Stock.
For product pages, turn Product Page → Enable Product Page Button ON.
For collection pages, turn Collection Page → Enable Collection Page Button ON.
Click Save.
If the button is missing only on collection pages or only on product pages, check the setting for that specific location.
The button must be placed in your theme so it has somewhere to display.
For Shopify 2.0 themes
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
Open your product template.
Click Add block.
Search for Back in Stock Product.
Add it below the Add to cart button or in the product form area.
Click Save.
For non-2.0 themes
Make sure this code exists in your product template:
<div class="wc_wl_bis_btn"
data-product_id="{{ product.id }}"
data-variant_id="{{ product.selected_or_first_available_variant.id }}">
</div>If your store uses an older theme, the button may not appear until this code is added in the correct product template.
If your product has multiple variants, the button may only show for the variant that is out of stock.
Open the product in Shopify Admin.
Choose one variant to test.
Set that variant's quantity to 0.
Make sure Track quantity is enabled for that variant.
On your storefront, select that same variant.
Refresh the page and check whether the Notify Me button appears.
If one variant is sold out and another variant is still in stock, the button may appear only after the sold-out variant is selected on the product page.
If you edited a draft theme but your storefront is using a different live theme, the button may appear in one theme and not the other.
Go to Online Store → Themes.
Check which theme is marked Live.
Make sure your app embed and button block were added to that same theme.
Theme and app changes do not always appear immediately in a cached browser session.
Refresh the product page using a hard refresh.
Or open the product in an incognito/private browser window.
Test the same out-of-stock product or variant again.
What the button should do
When everything is set up correctly, the Notify Me button appears only when the selected product or variant is unavailable. Customers can then submit their email address to be notified when that item is back in stock.
If a product is available for purchase, the Notify Me button stays hidden by design.
Common reasons the button does not appear
The app embed is turned off.
The product is still in stock.
Track quantity is disabled in Shopify.
The feature is turned off in the app settings.
The theme block or code snippet has not been added.
You are testing the wrong variant.
You updated a draft theme instead of the live theme.
Quick checklist
App embed is ON
Product or selected variant inventory is 0
Track quantity is enabled
Back in Stock button is enabled in the app
Theme block or code snippet is added
You are testing the correct variant
You are checking the live theme
Still not showing?
If you have completed every step above and the button is still missing, the issue is usually related to the theme setup or the specific product template being used.
This usually means one of the following:
The affected products are using a different product template.
The missing products still have inventory available on at least one variant.
The sold-out variant is not selected on the storefront.
Check Back In Stock → Collection Page → Enable Collection Page Button in the app settings and make sure your theme supports the button in collection layouts.
If you switched themes, you may need to re-enable the app embed and re-add the app block in the new theme.
