Add the Notify Me button to your product pages (Online Store 2.0 themes)
Overview
The Notify Me button appears on your product page when a product or selected variant is out of stock. To show it to customers, you need to add the app block to your product template in Shopify's theme editor.
This guide explains how to add the button to Online Store 2.0 themes without editing code.
How to check if you have an Online Store 2.0 theme
You are most likely using an Online Store 2.0 theme if:
Your theme came from the Shopify Theme Store and was released or updated after 2021
Your theme editor lets you add blocks inside product sections
Your product template includes a section such as Product information or Product details with movable blocks
If you are not sure, check your theme documentation or ask your theme developer.
Before you start, make sure you’ve already activated the app embed. If you haven’t done that yet, complete that step first in Getting Started.
What this setup does
Shows the Notify Me button when a product or variant is sold out
Hides the button automatically when the item is back in stock
Lets you place the button where it fits best on your product page
Works directly from the Shopify theme editor for Online Store 2.0 themes
Add the Notify Me button in an Online Store 2.0 theme
Use the Shopify theme customizer to add the app block to your product page template.

In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes. On your live theme, click Customize.
At the top of the theme editor, open the page selector and choose Products, then select Default product or the specific product template you want to update.
In the left sidebar, look for the main product section, usually called Product information or something similar depending on your theme.
Click Add block, then search for and select Back in Stock Product.
Drag the block to the position you want. For most stores, the best placement is directly below the Add to cart button or buy buttons so customers can find it easily when an item is unavailable.
Click Save in the top-right corner of the theme editor.
If your store uses multiple product templates, repeat these steps for each template where you want the Notify Me button to appear.
Recommended placement
For the best customer experience, place the Notify Me button close to the product purchase area.
Best option: directly below the Add to cart button
Good option: below the variant picker and above product details
Avoid: placing it too far down the page where customers may miss it
If your product page has variant selectors, test at least one in-stock variant and one out-of-stock variant after saving. This confirms the button appears only when it should.
How it works on your storefront

After the block is added and saved:
Customers will see the Notify Me button when the product or selected variant is out of stock
When the product or variant is available, the button stays hidden
The standard purchase button remains available for in-stock items
Check your setup
After saving, preview a product page on your storefront and confirm the behavior below:
An out-of-stock product shows the Notify Me button
An in-stock product does not show the Notify Me button
Changing variants updates the button visibility correctly
Troubleshooting
Make sure you are editing an Online Store 2.0 theme and that the app is installed correctly. Also confirm the app embed has been activated before adding the block.
Check these common causes:
The block was added to a different product template than the one your product is using
The product or selected variant is currently in stock, so the button is intentionally hidden
The theme changes were not saved
The app embed has not been enabled
This usually means those products use different product templates. Add the block to each template where you want the button to display.
